Not-for-Profit Website Development Australia

Accessible websites and digital platforms for organisations with complex content, audiences and responsibilities.

We work with established Australian not-for-profits, health organisations, peak bodies and community services where content, accessibility, integrations and staff ownership all matter.

  • Content and audience strategy
  • Accessibility designed through delivery
  • CRM, events, directories and search
  • Staff ownership after launch

A good fit when

Not-for-profit websites get complicated quickly.

The strongest fit is an organisation whose content, audiences and responsibilities need to work together—not a low-cost brochure site.
  • Several audiences need different paths

Community members, professionals, partners, funders and staff need clear routes through the same site.
  • Resources need useful structure

Publications, programs and services require taxonomy, search and filtering that reflect real questions.
  • Accessibility spans the whole project

Content, UX, development and quality assurance all contribute to an accessible result.
  • Services and systems must connect

Forms, events, directories, newsletters and CRM platforms cannot remain isolated.
  • Stakeholders need clear decisions

Boards, funders, program leads and communications teams need an accountable review process.
  • Staff need ownership after launch

The CMS and governance model must support confident day-to-day publishing.
Accessibility

Accessibility is a project discipline, not a launch-day score.

We consider it through content, information architecture, design, development and quality assurance. Formal conformance work is defined according to the evidence and governance the organisation actually needs.

Designed into the foundations

Semantic structure, keyboard use, focus behaviour, contrast, forms and content patterns are considered before development is complete.

Tested against real journeys

Automated checks are useful, but manual keyboard, screen-reader and responsive testing are needed around the important paths.

Claims match the agreed scope

WCAG 2.2 AA audits, remediation evidence and independent certification are scoped explicitly where they are required.
Delivery

Content, stakeholders and the build move together.

Complexity is easier to control when audience, governance and technical decisions are visible to each other.

Content and stakeholder decisions made early

Audience needs, governance, sitemap, content ownership and approval points are clarified before the interface and build lock in expensive assumptions.

Useful resource and service discovery

Taxonomy, search, filters, directories and related-content pathways are designed around the questions people bring to the organisation.

Accessibility with an honest scope

Accessible foundations are designed and tested throughout delivery. Where formal WCAG conformance evidence or independent certification is required, the additional audit and documentation are scoped explicitly.

A platform staff can manage

The CMS, page-building options, training and governance model are shaped around the people who will publish and maintain the site after launch.

Straight advice

Funding needs to be spent carefully.

We do not assume a rebuild or custom platform is the answer. If the existing site can be improved, or a supported platform can meet the requirement reliably, we will say so.

When complexity genuinely requires custom work, we explain the trade-offs before the organisation commits. The platform recommendation follows the audiences, content, workflows, governance and ownership requirements—not a preferred CMS.

How we work

A senior team stays accountable to the brief.

Strategy, content, design and development decisions stay connected, with direct access to the people responsible for the outcome and the platform after launch.
  • Direct access to senior people
  • Design and development working closely together
  • Technical advice without a communications relay
  • No junior production line or offshore hand-off
  • Project knowledge that stays with the team after launch
“Digital Bird is my first pick for delivering web projects on time, on budget and to the brief — every time. Beyond being a delight to work with, Jonathan Bird is that rare breed of developer who is both masterful on the tools (an absolute Laravel whizz!) while also being adept at engaging the client in UX-thinking, to which he applies expert insights, gained through years of experience, to help further improve the end design for the target user’s experience. This powerful combination of skills means that 4 years on and a variety of projects later (from search directories to corporate website developments), Digital Bird firmly remains my first pick for developer.”

Free strategy session or RFQ

Send the project context or your existing RFQ.

Tell us about the audiences, current platform, funding or procurement timing and the outcome the organisation needs. The brief does not need to be complete.

Project budget *

An approximate timeframe is enough.

This helps us understand how people find us.

Describe the current situation, desired outcome, known timing and any important constraints.

Optional. PDF, Word or Excel files up to 10 MB. Uploads are stored privately.

Already have a brief or RFQ?

Attach it above. We will flag complexity, risks or assumptions worth resolving before the project begins. Initial project discussions are treated as confidential.

FAQ

Not-for-Profit Website FAQs

Common questions about accessibility, stakeholders, integrations, funding and project briefs.
No. A refresh, content restructure, accessibility improvement or focused technical programme may be the better use of funding. We assess the existing platform and explain the trade-offs before recommending a rebuild.
Yes. We establish decision owners, review stages and the evidence each group needs during discovery. That can include boards, funders, program teams, communications, IT, community representatives and external creative or cultural collaborators.
We design and build accessible foundations and can scope WCAG 2.2 AA testing, remediation and documentation when formal conformance is required. We do not treat accessibility as a final automated check or claim blanket certification without an agreed audit scope.
Yes. Relevant work includes Microsoft Dynamics forms, Humanitix event imports, Algolia-powered search and custom service-discovery directories. We map data ownership, failure handling, privacy and staff workflows before recommending the connection.
Yes. Attach a PDF, Word or Excel brief to the enquiry form. We will review the requirements and identify complexity, risks or assumptions worth resolving before scope is finalised.
